The Australian Irish Heritage Association (AIHA) in Western Australia is welcoming the new year with a vibrant array of activities in February, offering a taste of Irish culture and film, alongside community engagements that celebrate Australia’s Irish heritage. From outdoor film screenings to literary discussions, there’s something for everyone in the upcoming season.

The AIHA Film Club will kick off its season with the Fifteenth Annual Outdoor Irish Film Festival, beginning on February 5th and continuing every Wednesday through March 5th. The festival will showcase a range of Irish films, from comedies to fantasy adventures, and each night will feature an additional short film or documentary. Films will be screened at a private garden cinema in Kensington, South Perth, with a big 15-foot cinema screen. Along with the screenings, there will be tea, coffee, cakes, and ice creams available for attendees.

Also on the horizon is the Fourth Tuesday Book Club, which will meet on February 25th. The club meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month, with the exception of December, at 7.30pm. For details, contact convener Mary Purcell at m.purcell@telstra.com.

AIHA also continues its commitment to supporting the Irish-Australian community through a variety of partnerships, including their ongoing involvement with the Claddagh Association, the Irish Scene magazine, and the annual Brendan Award, which honours individuals or groups for their dedicated service to Australia’s Irish heritage.

Other upcoming events include the Saint Patrick’s Festival parade and concert on March 15th. The parade and concert will take place at Birdwood Square, Beaufort and Bulwer Streets, Perth.
