For more than 55 years, the National Folk Festival has been a cornerstone of Australia’s folk community, bringing together musicians, dancers, and storytellers to celebrate and share cherished traditions. As April approaches, excitement builds for this year’s Festival, set to run from the 17th to the 21st. 

The Festival kicks off on Thursday with a dynamic Opening Concert featuring the poignant storytelling of David Francey and the captivating sounds of Chris Stout and Catriona McKay. The Welcome Dance promises lively energy, showcasing the Kameruka Bush Orchestra, Super Mande Percussion, and Amaidí.

Friday brings a stellar line-up, including the soaring harmonies of Ruth Moody and the Stiff Gins, and a tribute to James Taylor by John Flanagan. The evening buzzes with activity, from a Scottish Cèilidh to the glamour of the Bridgerton Ball.

Saturday keeps the momentum going with performances by Josh Pyke, Stuart Joel Nuggett, and Daoirí Farrell. Dance enthusiasts can revel in the Queer Céilí, the Yankadi African Party, or the Trad Rave, making for an unforgettable night.

On Sunday, the spotlight turns to Irish Mythen and Charlie Needs Braces, among others. The day’s highlights include the Masked Heritage Ball, showcasing two centuries of Australian folk music, and the vibrant Latin Fiesta.

The Festival concludes on Monday with performances by The Tuck Shop Ladies and Joel Havea, followed by the lively Contra Dance with the National Contra Band. The grand finale, the Festival Parade, is a celebration of the creativity and spirit that define this beloved event.
