The Clans on the Coast Highland Celtic Festival is set to return to the Port Stephens area, bringing with it a vibrant celebration of Celtic heritage and community spirit. Hosted by the Port Stephens Celtic Association Inc., the festival will take place on Saturday, 21st September from 8.30am to 4pm at the Lakeside Sports Complex in Raymond Terrace.
Founded by Ron Swan and supported by his sister Diane, the festival has been a staple in the community for 14 years, providing a unique opportunity to immerse in Celtic culture.
This year’s festival will continue its tradition of charitable giving by supporting the Starlight Foundation, which works tirelessly to bring joy and comfort to sick children at the John Hunter Hospital. The Starlight Foundation’s mission is to brighten the lives of seriously ill children and their families, creating moments of happiness and relief from the rigours of treatment.
Visitors can expect a day filled with a variety of attractions, including pipe and drum band performances, Celtic music and dance, and the Highland Strongman Games Competition. The event will also feature medieval fighting reenactments, a tug-o-war competition, children’s costume competition and kids’ rides.
Market stalls will offer local artisans’ crafts and regional produce, while food and drink stalls ensure there’s something for every palate. Car enthusiasts can enjoy the Car Show and Shine, showcasing both vintage and modern vehicles.
A standout feature of the festival is the Ceilidh, a formal dinner and show held at the Raymond Terrace Bowling Club at 7pm. This evening event promises an elegant conclusion to a day of festivities, with traditional music, dance, and a hearty meal.
The Clans On The Coast Festival was envisioned by Ron Swan who has a strong passion for the Scottish culture and is proud of his heritage.
Wherever Ron goes he spreads the Scottish heritage message about which he is so passionate. He devotes his life to opening the community’s eyes to their Scottish backgrounds and has helped many people recognise their Scottish heritage, awakening a passion for their Celtic heritage in the hearts of many people in the Port Stephens area.
Ron’s vision is to create an annual festival celebrating and sharing the cultural contribution of the Scottish and Celtic settlers to Australia.
Last year’s Clans on the Coast festival drew nearly 4,000 attendees and raised $5,000 for cancer research. The organising committee, led by Ron Swan and supported by vice president Adam Nicholas, hopes to surpass that success this year, enhancing community engagement and raising even more funds for the Starlight Foundation.
The festival will be bigger than ever this year, spread across three fields at Lakeside Sports Complex.
The festival’s success relies heavily on the generosity of local sponsors and volunteers.
Gate tickets for the event are now on sale at Clans on the Coast.
