You don’t need to know your Strip the Willow from your Dashing White Sergeant to enjoy a Scottish ceilidh.
In fact, that’s half the fun.
The Queensland Historical Dance Society is inviting dancers, music lovers and the simply curious to a lively night of Scottish ceilidh dancing at Arana Hills on July 24, complete with live music from the delightfully named band Phillip’s Dog.
Whether you’re a seasoned ceilidh veteran or someone who has never set foot on a dance floor, organisers say everyone is welcome. Experienced callers will guide participants through the dances, making it easy for newcomers to join in.
For generations, ceilidhs have been at the heart of Scottish social life, bringing communities together through music, laughter and dances designed to get everyone involved. Unlike formal ballroom dancing, a ceilidh is all about participation rather than perfection.
The evening promises plenty of toe-tapping tunes, energetic dancing and the sort of friendly atmosphere that has kept the tradition alive from the Highlands of Scotland to Scottish communities around the world.
So gather a few friends, bring the family and prepare for a night where the only requirement is a willingness to have a go.
