July kicks off with kilts and castles, as the Aberdeen Highland Games (5 July, NSW) deliver a full day of caber tossing, dancing, and all things Scottish. If it’s trad music you’re after, head north to Darwin for the NT Irish Music Festival (12 July), headlined by Irish rock legends Aslan. It’s part of a growing Celtic wave sweeping across the nation.
August brings the Mackay Bluewater Fling (26 July, QLD), a celebration of Scottish culture on the water’s edge. At the other end of the country, Balingup Medieval Carnivale (23–24 August, WA) offers a colourful weekend of street theatre, markets and medieval merriment.
