Young Isabella Cummins of Mackay in Queensland has burst onto the global stage with her mesmerising Irish dance prowess, securing herself the title of Under 8 World Champion in Belgium.

Speaking to Anglo&Celtic magazine, Isabella’s mother Rebecca said: “We have just returned back from Belgium at the World Irish Dance Association Championships. Isabella is now the Under 8 World Champion!

“Isabella has been dancing since she was two for Claddagh School of Irish Dance in Mackay and Marian, Queensland. We travelled to Liege in Belgium to compete in the WIDA World Irish Dancing Championships. She took out the title.”

Isabella was inspired to take up Irish dancing by Emma Wiggle’s performances. She competed at her first WIDA World Championships in Killarney, Kerry, Ireland in 2023 and placed third.

“Issey not only trains three to four times a week leading up to competitions but also showcases her talents at many local events here in Mackay, such as the Food and Wine Festival, Global Grooves, Mackay Show, and even local nursing homes,” Rebecca said proudly.

“She has amazing teachers and, obviously, a lot of family support. Her dad is from Granard, County Longford, Ireland, and I’m a Brisbane girl, but we live in Mackay.”

Looking ahead to future goals, Rebecca added: “We would love to get sponsorship and support from any business to help Isabella get to Worlds 2025.”
