The Australian Welsh Male Choir is gearing up for a memorable performance at Melbourne’s own Last Night of the Proms! 

This event promises to be an afternoon of musical splendor featuring the Legends of Brass, the Australian Welsh Male Choir, and the PLC Ladies Pipes & Drums.

For the Proms season, traditionally held in summertime in the UK, obtaining a ticket to the Last Night at the Royal Albert Hall often involves a ballot or even camping outside the hall in hopes of securing a spot. Fortunately, Melbourne residents can enjoy a similar experience without the hassle by attending this local rendition.

The Australian Welsh Male Choir is in the midst of celebrating its 50th anniversary with a busy diary of events.  

Reflecting on their milestone year, the choir shared, “We are nearly halfway through our 50th birthday year, and what a journey it has been!” 

Their celebration kicked off with a sold-out “Bold as Brass” concert at Melbourne’s Edge Theatre in Federation Square, alongside the Darebin Brass Band.

Throughout the year, the choir has performed in various locations including Leongatha, Sorrento, and the magnificent St Marys of the Angels Basilica in Geelong. They also participated in a joyful Gamanfa Ganu with six Victorian choirs and special guests from Wales, featuring renowned musician, composer, and conductor Jeffery Howard, as well as soloists Ceri Haf Roberts and Heulen Cynfal.

The highlight of their anniversary celebrations was the 50th Anniversary Concert at the Frankston Arts Centre, which saw them once again joined by their Welsh guests, Jeffery Howard, Ceri Haf Roberts, and Heulen Cynfal, singing to a full house. 

As they continue their anniversary celebrations, the Australian Welsh Male Choir is excited to invite you to their upcoming Proms concert in Ivanhoe.
