Get ready to dig out your flowing red dresses and practice your dramatic twirls, because The Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever is sweeping across Australia once again in 2024!
This delightful and slightly bizarre event is a celebration of Kate Bush’s iconic song Wuthering Heights, and it promises to bring joy, laughter, and a lot of red fabric to cities across the nation.
Wuthering Heights Day is a global event inspired by the 1978 music video for Kate Bush’s Wuthering Heights, where she prances around in a red dress, embodying the spirit of the song’s character, Cathy, from Emily Brontë’s novel. The day was first conceived by a group called Shambush in 2013, who organised a mass gathering of 300 Kate Bush look-alikes in Brighton, England. The idea caught on, and now fans worldwide gather annually to recreate the whimsical dance.
Australians are known for their love of quirky, community-driven events, and Wuthering Heights Day fits the bill perfectly. It’s a chance to let loose, embrace your inner drama queen, and celebrate the uniqueness of Kate Bush’s music and persona. Plus, it’s just plain fun to see a park full of people twirling and flailing with abandon.
No need to panic if you don’t know the dance by heart. Many events provide practice sessions. The essential gear includes a red dress, a willingness to frolic, and a spirit of unadulterated joy.
