DonateDonate monthlyDonate yearlyIt’s hard to believe that it’s been a year since the first edition of Anglo&Celtic was published. It’s been a busy, interesting, heart-warming, and fun journey.
I said in the first edition that the magazine would evolve over time, and it indeed has. The design has changed to pack more news in. It started out as mostly news from back in the home countries, but now it’s primarily local news. That’s thanks to the wonderful people who have been in touch and have sent in stories. We monitor which stories are most popular, so we can give you more of what you want.
The magazine retains its off-beat humour, sharing tales that are a bit of fun. After the challenging years we have just lived through, and with so much negativity in the mainstream news, it’s good to look at the light side of life and share something fresh and positive.
Even though I spend much of my time at a desk making this magazine, and managing its website and social media channels, I still feel part of a wide and vibrant community thanks to those of you who have reached out to me.
I was elected to the board of directors of Queensland Irish Association this past year too. Combined with having a young family, life is busy. I’d love to be able to attend all the festivals we feature around the country, but it’s not possible. So, I rely on you to share your pictures and stories. I get to as many local events as I can – like Bloomsday in Brisbane last month, which is shown on our cover.
Helping the community is a huge part of what Anglo&Celtic is about, and we help community groups, small-budget festivals, etc., by offering media sponsorships and free promotions. The magazine doesn’t get grants and is family-run and fully independent.
Inflation has gone up, but our ad prices haven’t and they are flexible, so if you’re on a tight budget, let us know. We have also set up a donate tab on our website. The magazine is free to download, but if you enjoy it and would like to make a contribution to support it, you can now do so. Sponsorships are also welcome. Details are in our media pack, which you can download from the Advertise tab on our website.
Thank you to all our advertisers this first year. Thanks especially go to Finn McCool’s Fortitude Valley, Burke Whistles, and The Red Lion Tavern for your support. Thank you to all who have spread the word too.
If you have a story to share, get in touch by email to editor@angloandceltic.com.
