In a heartwarming celebration of camaraderie and festive cheer, the Irish community in Brisbane came together for a delightful gathering at the Irish Community Christmas Lunch on Thursday, 7th December at the Gaelic football clubhouse in Willawong.

Sixty community members joined the joyous occasion, creating a wonderful atmosphere filled with laughter and friendly banter. Seamus Sullivan, a prominent figure within the community, took centre stage, extending warm wishes for a merry Christmas and a happy new year to all in attendance. For Seamus, this holiday season holds special significance as he prepares to embark on a journey to Ireland in January to receive a prestigious award from the President of Ireland, recognising his lifetime of dedication to the Irish diaspora.

The clubhouse radiated festive spirit, adorned with vibrant Christmas decorations that added to the joyful ambiance. The gathering indulged in a traditional Christmas hot lunch of turkey and ham with dessert of plum pudding and ice cream, savouring the flavours of the season.

These communal lunches are a cherished tradition for the Irish community in Brisbane, occurring throughout the year and welcoming everyone. This was the group’s second Christmas lunch of 2023, having also embraced the Aussie tradition of celebrating Christmas in July. The event not only brought the community together but also highlighted the warmth and unity that defines their shared experiences, making it a truly memorable occasion for all involved.
