Canberra Highland Gathering is back after a hiatus in ACT and they have an exciting line-up of pipe bands. And the Scottish calendar is very busy is October, because over in WA, they’re gearing up for the Armadale Highland Gathering and Perth Kilt Run. And Melbourne is getting ready for another fun Williamstown Highland and Celtic Gathering.
Also in Western Australia, they’ve just celebrated the Australian Morris Ale and we have a feature on the rise and rise of Morris dancing.
Of course, the big celebration this month is Halloween. Australians resisted this festival for a long time but it looks like they’ve folded and are finally embracing the family fun festival, which is a perfect excuse to dress up and meet your neighbours.
As always, we have our celeb features and it’s so good to see the big names returning to Australia after the restrictions of the past few years have ended. This month alone, we will have Paul McCartney, The Corrs, The Happy Mondays, Sam Smith, Sparks, Bad Manners, Tommy Fleming, Kosheen and John Edwards.
We have an exciting interview with Tom and Meaghan McGlynn, who will be giving a talk at Melbourne’s Celtic Connections series. Their life story has brought them from Riverdance to The Wiggles, with a dash of Home and Away and Power Rangers thrown in there for good measure. It’s a fascinating story.
Once again, the magazine has a comprehensive gig guide that covers British, Irish and Celtic events coming up this month all over Australia. We also cover events that cross over cultures, like folk festivals, medieval festivals, Viking festivals etc.
Then there’s news. We like to concentrate on good news stories only, as much as possible. One great story is that there’s a Celtic Standing Stones monument opening in Brisbane. Another is that an Aussie chef is vying for a porridge-making championship title in Scotland. We tell you about a tough Sydney school that’s turning a new leaf with help from its new pipe band. And an iconic Amy Winehouse exhibition is coming to Sydney and Melbourne. Plus there’s plenty more news, just download our magazine to read it all.
