CelticFest Warwick 2023 has exciting workshops on offer as part of CelticFest and the CelticFringe, which runs from Friday, 29th September to Monday, 2nd October.
Learn some beginner Gaelic! You can impress or bamboozle your friends, and pick up a couple of simple Gaelic songs to add to your repertoire. Talented musician, singer and lover of Gaelic, Lorna Warner, will run a free Bucket List Scottish Gaelic Language Workshop at 11.30am to 12.15pm on Saturday, 30th September at Club Warwick RSL. No booking required, though numbers may be capped depending on room size. You can grab coffee and cake in the club’s café beforehand, or lunch afterwards!
Create your own unique Celtic art piece as a memento of your CelticFest weekend! The Warwick Artist Group will host a Celtic Art Workshop at The Art Hub from 10.30am to 12.30pm on Saturday, 30th September, with materials and guidance supplied. The two-hour workshop costs $40. Bookings to warwickartistgroup@gmail.com or Sue on 0402 460 919.
Learn about the mechanics of playing a musical instrument! Bring your own musical instrument if you have one, or your voice, and singer and musician Amie Brûlée will show you how subtle changes in the way you hold an instrument and move your body can make playing notes or singing a lot easier. This free workshop will be held at 10.30am to 11.15am on Saturday, 30th September at Club Warwick RSL – again, no booking required, but numbers may be capped depending on room size. Enjoy a coffee and cake, or lunch, in the club’s café.
Finally, learn to Celtic line dance! Last year’s Celtic Line Dancing Workshop was a runaway success and returns to the CelticFringe at Club Warwick RSL on Monday, 2nd October, from 9.30am to 12pm. Modern line dancing embraces the Celtic spirit in this fun and free workshop, with dances choreographed to Celtic tunes. Enquiries to Jenny on 0437 009 906. And after you’ve worked up an appetite from dancing, stay at Club Warwick RSL for lunch!
In addition to the CelticFringe workshops listed above, ticket-holders to CelticFest at the Warwick Showgrounds will also be able to participate in more exciting workshops!
On Sunday, 1st October, from 12.30pm to 1.30pm at The Pavilion, Lorna Warner will again run the Bucket List Scottish Gaelic Language Workshop. She will be followed by Amie Brûlée, from 1.45pm to 2.30pm, also at the Pavilion, who will run her workshop on the mechanics of using your body to better play a musical instrument or to sing.
Learn how to ceilidh dance! The Scotsman – fresh from calling the family ceilidh (dance) hosted by the Darling Downs Irish Club in The Pavilion on Saturday night at CelticFest – will run a free Ceilidh Folk workshop during CelticFest on Sunday, 1st October from 11.30am to 12.15pm. Suitable for all ages and no experience needed – it’s the perfect way to kick off your CelticFest day!
