The Hayland Gathering is gearing up for a spectacular return in 2025, with an exciting new venue and an action-packed program celebrating Scottish heritage in the heart of the Riverina. On April 12, the event will take place “On the Greens” at the Hay Services Club & Fitness Centre, ensuring a fantastic experience with all-weather options covered.

DATES & DEETS

The festivities begin with a street parade down Lachlan Street, filling the town with the stirring sound of bagpipes and the sight of kilts swaying in time. From there, the action moves to the gathering grounds, where the Riverina Highland Dancing Titles will be held inside the club. Competitors of all ages will showcase their skills in the intricate and energetic art of Highland dance, while outside, the Highland Muscle Heavy Events Competition will see athletes take on iconic challenges like the caber toss and stone put.

Throughout the day, visitors can browse market stalls offering Scottish-inspired food, crafts, and memorabilia, or take part in the highly anticipated shortbread competition. Children’s activities and athletic events will ensure fun for the whole family.

It will be tee time at the third annual Hayland Gathering Golf Tournament. With $600 in prizes to be won, the fun tees off at 11am. Players are advised to get their kilts and clubs ready for a fun day out.

As the sun sets, the celebration continues with the Hayland Gathering Ceilidh at the Hay Services Club. Kicking off at 7pm, this lively evening promises an unforgettable mix of music, dance, and traditional Scottish hospitality. A two-course buffet roast dinner will be served, setting the stage for entertainment by The Scotsman Music and Auld Alliance, as well as performances by Highland dancers Elie Roe Daniel and Alice Gill. The night will include the ceremonial Address to the Haggis, and, to close the event in style, a dazzling fireworks display by Anthony Slattery Fireworks.

Hay is often said to be one of the flattest places in Australia. The surrounding Hay Plains are famous for their vast, featureless landscapes that stretch as far as the eye can see, with barely a tree or hill to break the horizon. This extreme flatness gives Hay its iconic, endless sky views and dramatic sunsets, making it a unique part of the Riverina.

The 2025 Hayland Gathering is shaping up to be a must-attend celebration for Scots and festival lovers alike.
