South Australia’s Deputy Premier Susan Close MP visited the Cornish copper mines Burra and Moonta recently to celebrate the sites being added to Australia’s UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List.
Members of the bid team, VIPs, and community members enjoyed Cornish pasties, a train ride to the Moonta site, and speeches from renowned historian Barry Gamble, Mayor Talbot, and the Deputy Premier.
Moonta Area School Year 5 class attended in heritage dress and played old-time games, such as marbles, skipping, coits, croquet, and limbo, at Hughes Engine House.
