Celebrated cellist and composer, Ilse de Ziah, and renowned guitarist Ian Date, will present a special live show called Living the Tradition on Saturday, December 21st at the Gold Coast’s Broadbeach Cultural Centre.
Living the Tradition is a two-part event that follows Ilse’s emotional musical journey around Ireland in search of the undiscovered secrets behind some of Ireland’s best-known airs (or songs). Along the way she met with renowned Irish musicians, scholars, and local characters who shared with her the history and stories behind the music. The result of this journey was the critically acclaimed documentary Ilse made with Dutch filmmaker Maarten Roos called Living The Tradition: An Enchanting Journey Through Old Irish Airs. The event will include a screening of the documentary followed by a special musical performance by Ilse de Ziah and Ian Date, who is regarded as one of Australia’s greatest guitarists. They will play a selection of songs inspired by these Irish airs, showcasing their passion and virtuosity in this style of music.
