The Tascal Winter Ball Weekend 2024 is shaping up to be an unforgettable celebration of Scottish dance and global connections. From Friday, September 6th, dance enthusiasts will gather in Hobart, Tasmania, for a weekend filled with music, dancing, and camaraderie.
The festivities kick off on Friday evening with two delightful options. You can choose to embark on a serene evening cruise along the River Derwent, where the sparkling lights of Hobart will set the mood for the weekend ahead. As you glide past iconic landmarks like the Royal Botanical Gardens and the Tasman Bridge, enjoy live commentary and cheese platters provided by Tascal. Alternatively, you can head to St George’s Church Hall in Battery Point for a walk-through of the ball dances. This session is perfect for those who want to brush up on their steps before the main event. Both groups will come together afterward for a cosy supper, catching up with friends old and new.
Saturday evening is the highlight of the weekend: the Winter Ball at Hobart’s historic Town Hall. The evening begins at 7.30pm with a Grand March led by piper Geoff Jones, setting the stage for an evening of dancing to the vibrant tunes of Chris Duncan and Catherine Strutt. The program features a selection of dances that reflect the global influence of Scottish country dancing, showcasing choreography from around the world. The night promises non-stop energy, a delicious supper, and a chance to dance the night away in a stunning setting.
The weekend concludes on Sunday with a relaxed picnic at the Richmond Town Hall in the picturesque village of Richmond. This is a day for unwinding after the excitement of the ball, with opportunities for informal dancing, music, and exploring the charming local galleries and shops.
