English songwriter and producer William Phillips, known by his stage name Tourist, is set to return to Australia this October.
Renowned for his exploration of electronic music, Tourist has crafted a decade-long career influenced by early rave music and iconic artists like Daft Punk and The Chemical Brothers. With four albums, a diverse range of remixes, and a Grammy Award for co-writing Sam Smith’s Stay With Me, his influence on the electronic music scene is undeniable.
Tourist’s 2022 album, Inside Out, was deeply inspired by personal experiences during the Covid era, including the loss of a close friend and the arrival of fatherhood. The album, characterised by swinging garage grooves and French filter house melodies, reflects the interplay of grief and joy. His upcoming fifth album, set for release in 2024, promises a shift from dancefloor-centric tracks to more introspective, mood-based music, influenced by shoegaze, psychedelic sounds, and the nostalgic collage style of The Avalanches.
Tourist’s latest work aims to create an immersive experience blending folk vocals, synth lines, and melodic house ambience. “I want this album to be a place you go and visit often, and where you find new, little things in it every time you go,” he said.
Tickets for Tourist’s Australian tour in support of his fifth album, Memory Morning, are on sale now from livenation.com.au.
