The Isle of Man, known affectionately as the Gem of the Irish Sea, is famous for its rich history, stunning landscapes, and now… wallabies?
More than 560 wallabies have been caught on camera living the high life in the northern reaches of the Isle of Man – and no, they didn’t take a wrong turn at Sydney!
Since their daring escape from a local wildlife park back in the swinging ‘60s, these marsupial misfits have been multiplying faster than you can say “g’day mate” in the Ballaugh Curraghs area, turning the sleepy town into a marsupial metropolis!
Previous estimates had experts thinking there were just over a hundred of these furry fugitives on the loose. But a recent survey using high-tech drone technology has revealed that there’s a whole mob of them running amok!
Now, the Manx Wildlife Trust is scratching their heads over what to do with this wallaby invasion. The Trust’s chief, Leigh Morris, was gobsmacked by the high numbers of wallabies.
“I was personally astounded at the number we counted,” he said, adding: “There were far more than we were expecting.”
