Belvoir theatre is thrilled to present ‘Never Closer’, an astonishing debut play by Grace Chapple.

Set against the tumultuous backdrop of the Irish Troubles, Never Closer tells an unforgettable story of home, friendship, the tough choices between leaving or staying, and the profound possibility of forgiveness.

Northern Ireland, 1987. Deirdre is caught in a web of arguments, torn between nations, and haunted by the lives she never lived. On Christmas Eve, her old school friends gather in her kitchen, and their long-simmering differences threaten to ignite into conflict. The tension peaks when one of them arrives with a surprise fiancé — an Englishman.

After a successful run in 2022, this gripping drama will move from the intimate downstairs theatre to the Surry Hills, New South Wales theatre’s mainstage from May 25th to June 16th, 2024.

This is a unique opportunity to experience a thoughtfully crafted new play by an Australian writer exploring her ancestral roots.
