Celebrating its 50th anniversary, the Australian Welsh Male Choir took part in “a truly wonderful” Gymanfa Ganu at St Pauls Cathedral in Melbourne.
Organised by the Melbourne Welsh Church, the event featured six choirs.
The Australian Welsh Male Choir, the Mornington Peninsula Welsh Ladies Choir, Excelsis, the Geelong Welsh Ladies Choir, the Victorian Welsh and Melbourne Welsh Male Choirs sung together with a congregation of more than 800 people.
Australian Welsh Male Choir shared on their social media: “A truly Welsh event was enhanced under the direction of renowned Welsh musician, composer and conductor, Jeffrey Howard and Welsh soloists Ceri Haf Roberts and Heulen Cynfal.”
The choirs and congregation were welcomed by Revd Canon Robert Vun, Rev. Siôn Gough Hughes and the British Consul General Stephen Lysaght.
The choir thanked their music director Tom Buchanan, and president Ian Mackie and his committee for steering them through an amazing 50th anniversary year, that will continue with an Australian Outback Pub Tour in September.
With 50 members, the choir honours the legacy of Welsh male choirs, singing in both Welsh and English.
They’ve toured globally, including singing at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
In February, they held their 50th Anniversary Concert at Frankston Arts Centre.
