What an action-packed month we had in March with the Saint Patrick’s Day festivities which were a massive success, drawing huge crowds all over the country. No surprise when you consider the influx of Irish working holidaymakers we’ve seen.

Here in Brisbane, the star of this year’s festivities was undoubtedly Queensland Irish Association (QIA), who sold out their largest St Patrick’s Eve Dinner of the modern era. It was held for the first time at the spectacular Main Auditorium in Brisbane City Hall. They also had a large attendance for a history tour of Toowong Cemetery and a fun St Patrick’s Day lunch which included a dance lesson. Their entry into the St Patrick’s Day parade was hugely popular with the crowds. The parade was led by QIA with the talented Queensland Irish Association Pipe Band, the world-class QIA Dancers, and Saint Patrick on the QIA float, a vintage Fiat truck, as well as stilt walkers, an energetic leprechaun and a fun crew of walkers. Well done to all the hardworking volunteers at the QIA.

Now Saint Patrick can take a break from parades, parties and snake-catching for another year. There be dragons in town this April and there’s only one man for the job of defeating them: Saint George. The patron saint of England is famed for slaying a dragon to rescue a princess.

George is gearing up for his time in the spotlight, with feasts, Morris dancing and knights re-enacting medieval battles due to take place across Australia this month.
