A famous Irish nightclub is the inspiration behind a new pub in Perth.
Sir Henry’s has opened its doors in Northbridge’s Lake Street. The pub draws inspiration from the iconic Sir Henry’s in Cork, Ireland, a long-gone nightclub that was renowned for its role in shaping the house music scene in the 90s, hosting Nirvana to a crowd of 200 revellers, and being voted Europe’s best dance club by MTV.
Sir Henry’s in Perth is a nod to European pub culture with a local twist. Irish co-owner Ian Jeffery brings a touch of authenticity with quirky offerings like frozen vodka shots and drink specials priced in euros.
With racing memorabilia adorning the walls and a vintage 1958 Holden ute stealing the spotlight, the pub exudes character and history.
The pub is gearing up for its official launch, coinciding with St Patrick’s Day celebrations this month.
The Perth pub opened in January and was immediately popular. They shared on Facebook: “Well that was one busy weekend! We’re sold out of Guinness. Fantastic issue to have in our first week and we’re delighted it’s turned out so well.”
Sir Henry’s in Cork was named after Sir Henry Browne Hayes, a Sheriff of the city who was banished to Australia for the alleged kidnap of a local heiress. He was sent to New South Wales, where he went on to build Vaucluse House. He was eventually pardoned and sailed home to live out the remainder of his life in Cork.
