DonateDonate monthlyDonate yearlyThis is the time of year when the spotlight falls on the Irish, celebrating a rich culture, a love of fun, and a ‘craic’ing sense of humour. Expect wall-to-wall Derry Girls, Father Teds and Young Offenders at the Paddy’s Day parades across Australia.
Community leaders, committees and venues have been working hard to line up fun and meaningful celebrations to mark the day. Most of this task is taken on by volunteers, organising for months on end so that things run smoothly on the day. I hope lots of people come out to support parades and festivals.
What about this month’s absolutely stunning front-page picture of three young, talented Queensland Irish Association (QIA) Dancers? The colours of the traditional, embroidered dresses are stunning, especially set against the backdrop of jacarandas. Thank you to the girls and their parents for this picture.
Among our stories in this edition are a horse going into a bar, a globe-trotting and vanishing quilt, a pub that pays tribute to a closed-down nightclub 15,000 km away, and the strange story of an Irish Lord’s son who ended up long forgotten in a Brisbane cemetery. We love a good yarn!
Melbourne Celtic Festival has a feast of entertainment in store for you this month, both in Melbourne and Frankston, including Scottish Indian singer and harpist, Chloe Matharu.
We always keep you up to date on who’s touring in Australia from the homelands and this month, we have Tom Jones, The Human League, East 17, Nik Kershaw and Go West. We also have a feature on Riverdance’s 25th Anniversary Show.
Thank you again to our regular advertisers – you are the reason this magazine is free to the public.
