The Irish Club of Western Australia is discussing its future due to worries about underutilisation of the clubhouse.
Honorary Consultant Marty Kavanagh and Minister Stephen Dawson chaired a meeting at the Irish Club in Subiaco, on Wednesday, 31st January to discuss the future of the Irish club.
There was a large turnout at the meeting. The club posted an update on their Facebook page on February 4th saying: “Massive thanks to all who came out on Wednesday to share their thoughts and ideas for the future of the club.”
Before the meeting, the club had put out an appeal on social media stating: “The Irish Club is currently underutilised. It is a multimillion-dollar asset of the Irish Community which is not used by the community it exists to serve. We need input from right across the Irish community here in Perth to see how we can make the club the vibrant place that it can be. A place we can all call our own.
“Whether you are an individual who has have been here 50 years or just stepped off the boat, a member of an Irish Organisation, an Irish business owner or otherwise, you and any interested others are more than welcome to attend. We would also love to see some of our younger diaspora attend as your opinion is vital to the future of the club.”
The Irish Club of WA was founded in 1950, to create a hub for Irish emigrants to have a place to socialise and build a sense of community in a foreign land.
The Irish Club boasts four unique, different and well-equipped spaces across two levels suitable for private functions and events of all types, including a theatre.
Among the upcoming events at the club are Daoiri Farrell performing for two nights only, on March 23rd and 24th.
