The 2023 Maleny Music Festival is gearing up for its 10th-anniversary celebration, and it promises quality local musicians, great food vendors, and awesome vibes. Nestled in the lush hinterland of the Sunshine Coast, this annual boutique festival has earned a reputation for its relaxed, intimate, and casual atmosphere, making it a must-visit for anyone living in or visiting the area.
This festival has a rich history, with its roots tracing back to the original Maleny Folk Festival. It all began in 2012 on the 25th anniversary of the first event, eventually evolving into the celebrated Woodford Folk Festival. Run by dedicated community volunteers, the Maleny Music Festival is known for its diverse program, featuring everything from acoustic-based acts to dance bands, comedy, poetry, workshops, and street entertainment. With multiple stages and a vibrant street atmosphere, there’s something for music enthusiasts of all ages.
They are proudly a No-Waste Festival. They use re-usable bar cups, salvage all their recycling and their food vendors are 100% compostable! Everything you eat with or on can go in the compost bin, helping them to reduce rubbish.
The festival has a huge range of Irish, Celtic and UK talent this year, promising an unforgettable experience for all attendees. Here are some of the acts set to grace the festival stage:
• MunsterBucks: A Brisbane-based Irish-celtic band known for their inspirational traditional music.
• Enda Kenny: An Irish-born songwriter who has called Australia home since the late 1980s, sharing stories of his adopted homeland with humour.
• Amaidí: A Brisbane-based band steeped in Irish traditional music, offering a modern take on the music of Ireland.
• Ragged Band Border Morris: A group of mixed Morris dancers and musicians based in Brisbane, reviving ancient traditions with enthusiastic dance spectacles.
• The Jar: A vibrant Irish-influence folk band ready to energize the crowd with jigs, reels, and soaring vocal harmonies.
